Together, our management team provides the necessary skills and experience to help hospitals and employers bridge the employee healthcare and risk management gap.
David M. Hatrel – Founder and Chairman
During his twenty-plus years of experience with business development, physical rehabilitation, healthcare regulation, employer issues and the insurance industry, David Hatrel has progressively developed what is now embodied in Health Connections. David has been driven by his belief that the healthcare, employer, and insurance industries can work together for mutual benefit. David has designed a system of needs identification, problem resolution, streamlined communication, and enhanced clinical intervention that results in reduced costs for employers, a concentrated flow of profitable business to Health Connections’ medical providers, and a more pleasant, result-oriented outcome for the patients served.
Mike A. Fenello
As the Vice President of Business Development and Outpatient Services for Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious rehabilitation hospitals, Mike Fenello gained first-hand experience into the “win-win” relationships created by the Health Connections family of services. Revenues grew, services and facilities expanded, and relationships were enhanced. Prior to joining Madonna, Mike had served in executive capacities as the President for the hospital division of NovaCare, Inc., Senior V.P. of the outpatient rehabilitation division of NovaCare, and as CEO of five rehabilitation hospitals throughout the country. This executive-level experience along with his master of public administration degree, which emphasized hospital and health services administration, allows Mike to provide Health Connections with valuable insight and guidance.
Jerold H. Cort
Jerold Cort is a retired executive and technological entrepreneur with considerable experience in data management and software development. During the past 40 years, Jerold has acted as founder and CEO of three very successful software development firms. Most recently, Jerold has designed the sophisticated contact management software that is exclusively used by Health Connections’ team of professional sales staff. This software not only streamlines the sales process for the team, it also allows sales management and clients to access current sales statistics without the need for additional reports from the sales team.
Gary W. Kern, ARM
Gary Kern is a highly regarded consultant specializing in claims management, risk control, second injury fund programs, litigation management, and medical case management. Prior to being a risk management consultant, Gary held the top claims management position in various companies with as much as fifty million dollars in annual premium. Gary served in such a capacity while working with David Hatrel to perfect Health Connections’ service coordination model.
David M. Hatrel, PT, MTC – President/CEO
In addition to his executive duties as President/CEO of Health Connections, David can be found in the trenches teaching sales professionals or therapists, performing direct risk management services, or leading a business development team for individual Health Connections clients. David’s primary focus on a day-to-day basis centers around client and staff satisfaction.
Susan M. Heiser, M.Ed. – V.P. of Employer Services Division
Susan Heiser oversees the division of Health Connections that directly serves employers, both around our hospital markets and as freestanding clients. Susan handles the segment or our business that provides health and productivity management services to public and private corporations. Susan is an adjunct professor at George Washington University in the Washington, DC, area and specializes in employee health management and health promotions programs. Susan has spent the last 12 years working with large employers as well as large healthcare systems.
